ERIC PURDY (previously published under the pen Ric Robert) is a versatile writer of fantasy and thriller fiction known for a natural cinematic style readers describe as “reading a movie.”
Born in Bethesda, Maryland and a Utah resident for over 40 years after moving from White Bear, Minnesota in 1982, Eric is a U.S. Army veteran, 2x Golden Gloves champion in the cruiserweight division, and former sports journalist for Coach and Player Magazine. He spent six years as an executive gamemaster for World of Warcraft professional gaming guilds Esprit and Honestly.
A lifelong gamer (Destiny, Diablo 4, MLB The Show, World of Warcraft) and devoted fan of BYU athletics, the Minnesota Vikings, Twins, Wild, and Detroit Tigers, Eric brings that same competitive storytelling to his fiction.
Writing since age 8 and winning book-bees since age 6, his passion has always been story-telling. Military service, and life got in the way of pursuing a career in writing for over 20 years. He has a deep passion for American and World history, specializing in the American Civil War, World War II, and Vietnam, and believes in inclusiveness — that everybody has a role in the world — a theme woven throughout his novels.
Purdy publishes through DARK TALES • MYSTERIES. Expanding into film, he has mastered cinematography software and Hollywood-standard editing tools to adapt his own work. His first epic feature film, The Watcher — a dark, biblical fantasy — will be released in December 2026, followed now by the novel adaptation in May 2027. He will follow with the children’s holiday classic The Christmas Attic in late 2027 and the Civil War saga The Tigers in 2028. The Seal, Purdy's debut novel, was optioned and self-published under Ric Robert LLC in June 2026, but will be updated in September 2026 under Eric Purdy and Dark Tales and Mysteries.

Before Eve. Before empire. Before the world took shape — Heaven went to war.
Not a war of men, but of authority. Of governance. Of allegiance.
A war for the most dangerous gift God ever gave: agency.
It was fought across the heavens and upon the earth — by men and women, by the Divine and by demons.
And when it ended, Hell was born.
But one Watcher remained.
She saw it all. She recorded it all.
Her name was forbidden to be spoken, for her name was power itself.
She is Shem Hamphorash — the Name behind the Name, the 72-fold secret that binds Heaven and unmakes Hell.
Sakina Jordanna (The Watcher)
The Watcher is based on the upcoming novel, Sakina Jordanna; a prequel to the novel, The Seal (now available). The Watcher is a biblical dark fantasy. The Seal is a supernatural, archaeological thriller.

Some doors are sealed for a reason.
When an archaeological expedition led by Utah State University researchers uncovers a hidden chamber deep beneath Iran's unforgiving Lut Desert, they believe they've found the discovery of a lifetime.
Instead, they unleash a nightmare.
Buried beneath centuries of sand lies a mysterious black reliquary marked with symbols older than recorded history. Within hours of opening it, strange phenomena spread through the excavation site. Workers vanish. Brutal deaths shatter the camp. Ancient warnings once dismissed as superstition begin to feel terrifyingly real.
As fear consumes the desert dig, museum curator Professor Jennifer Rose races from Utah to uncover the truth behind a forgotten legend tied to crusader relics, fallen angels, and a sacred artifact known only as The Seal of the Seven.
But they are already too late.
Something has awakened.
Something older than civilization.
Something that has waited thousands of years for the box to be opened.
Now an unlikely group of archaeologists, scholars, a disgraced priest, and a young girl carrying a mysterious inheritance must confront forces that blur the line between history and myth, faith and madness, heaven and hell.
As ancient powers move in search of the Seal, the fate of humanity may rest in the hands of those least prepared to face the darkness.
Because some discoveries change history.
This one could end it.
The Seal is a pulse-pounding supernatural thriller where forgotten scripture, forbidden relics, and ancient evil collide in a battle that spans continents—and threatens all of creation.
Some doors are sealed to keep evil out. This one was sealed to keep it in.
The Seal is available at these retailers. It is not currently available temporarily at Barnes and Noble, but is expected back on 9/26/26.
